1. 退職や契約の終了、何らかの意図を公式に事前に通告すること。

何らかの行動（特に退職、賃貸契約の終了、会議の招集など）を起こす前に、相手にその意思や予定を公式に伝えることを意味します。この「通知」は書面であることが多いです。
